What is the process of applying for a PR card for the first time?

You can either work on a closed or an open work permit in Canada. Open Work Permit allows you to work for any employer in any province in Canada. Closed Work Permit allows you to work for a specific employer that would be listed on your work permit and it would also tell you how long would you be able to work for as well.

You will be able to live, work and study in any Canadian province
You will be able to receive pretty much all the benefits of being a Canadian Citizen

What are the requirements of becoming a Canadian Citizen?
You should be atleast 18 years of age
You should have lived in Canada for at least 3 years (1095 days) out of the 5 years as a permanent resident before you submit the application. You are exempt from this requirement if you are under 18
Since English and French are the official languages of Canada, you must be able to demonstrate proficiency in one of the two languages
You must not have a criminal conviction anywhere which is punishable under the laws in Canada. This will make you inadmissible and might affect your application.
