Refugee and Asylum
1) Refugee: For the people who are in danger of torture, fear of life or risk of punishment or who fear mistreatment if they would return to their home country, can apply under this program. Canada offers various shelter programs for people who qualify under this category. You can not qualify to apply as a refugee under the following circumstances:
- If you have been recognized as a convention refugee by any other country
- If you were already granted the status of a protected person in Canada
- If you have previously made a refugee claim but were found ineligible
- If you have previously made a refugee claim but were rejected by the Immigration Refugee Board.
- If you have withdrew a previous refugee claim
- If you have arrived through the Canada-US border and were found inadmissible to Canada on the basis of security issues
If you are found eligible, then would be granted the status of either “A person in need of protection” or “Convention Refugee”.
