Super Visa for Parents and Grandparents in Canada: Eligibility, Benefits, and Extensions
Super Visa(Parents and Grandparents): The parents and grandparents of Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents are allowed to visit Canada for an extended period of time (more than 6 months at a stretch) and those kinds of visas are known as the Super Visas. They are valid up to either 10 years or up to one month prior to the expiry of the individual’s passport, whichever comes first. The parents usually could stay up to a period of 2 years, however currently, due to new policies introduced, the parents can stay up to 5 years at a stretch. Below are the eligibility criteria to qualify to be a sponsor for Super Visa:
- Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Qualify for the minimum income to sponsor the parent/grandparent as per the family size
- Provide the applicant with a letter of invitation. This letter must clearly indicate where the applicant would stay, what is the economical and financial condition of the sponsor, the dates of the visit and the sponsor’s occupation/source of income
- They must be able to establish the relationship of either parent or grandparent with the sponsor
- Must be able to get a medical insurance for a coverage of $100,000 CAD for healthcare, hospitalization. The insurance must be valid for at least a year.
- Undergo a medical examination to ensure that they won’t be inadmissible to Canada on the medical grounds.
